This is Hunter, one of the many babies born to our big family this year. I would wager his arrival was the most nail-biting and nerve wracking until he came home in his momma's arms. He was born pre-mature and ventured to Bangor to be cared for there. It has been a relief for everyone to have him home and very healthy. He sure had lots of smiles and warm snuggles for me.

I hadn't felt any baby longings until he opened his eyes, looked at me, and melted my heart...

Big sister Libby is very proud and incredibly sweet! She took good care of Holden while we had fun posing.

He got his first deer already!

With this look, I think his personality might match his fun big sister!

Okay, it might be over a month late, but here are Holden's birthday photos. We were lucky to be in the Dominican Republic for his birthday. We were even more lucky that he woke up before the sun on his birthday, so we headed to the beach to catch some sunrise photos (the one on the left).

The photo on the right was part of a series of play time in our room. Poppa was tickling him! So many others will come, but I feel guilty enough not unpacking in our new house.

We've had a great past month of traveling to the Dominican with the Yazzies, spending a week in Boston with Grampy/Nana, and staying two weeks at Uncle Aaron's to hang out with Grampy and Grammy, Great Grammy Dot, lots of cousins and our friends Beth and Owen. Lots of grandparent time for this little man!

Now we just have to figure out this house business. All fingers and toes crossed for a successful closing on Monday!

I love what I did...

We've been doing a lot of driving these days...and it's given me the time to reflect on how I'm feeling about leaving UNH. The words bittersweet truly do sum it up. I'm happy and excited to be starting our new life, but I will miss this place. I know I would have been leaving in May anyway, and professionally, I would have rather not have left mid-year. Alas, with a baby in the mix, my priorities have shifted, and

I'm okay with that.

It doesn't mean I can't be a little sentimental though...

So here are a few of my favorite images over the past few years. Trust me it was agonizing to choose...so in the end, I just went with the ones that spoke to my feelings right now and what I'm going to miss...

Capturing meaningful moments...

This one above made me bawl like a baby. For a little back story, this is from a photo shoot of an RA staff. Johnny's actually. We had this shoot planned for a while, but about a week or so before the shoot, their hall community had a student death that rocked the campus. Johnny decided the photo shoot was just what they needed, full of teambuilders, laughing, and just focusing on them.

I was just the one behind the camera, but I felt so fortunate and moved to be a part of this healing process.

I'm going to miss having my camera at these fun events...capturing laughter, craziness, and getting to know each others.

I'm going to miss my friends.

A lot.

I feel blessed to have worked with such funny, down-to-earth co-workers, and I couldn't have asked for better supervisors who push us to find our niche and give us such autonomy.

My approximately 1100 students from UNH have been pretty awesome. Filled with great conversations, career guiding, silly floor wars competitions, and sharing their lives with Josh, Holden and me.

And finally...

Thank you to my RAs over the years. I have enjoyed supervising you all, and many of you have become life-long friends to each other and to our little family.

My Hunter RAs: You are going to be incredible next semester. You have already done great things, and I know the spring is going to be a lot of fun for you. I'm leaving this place in good hands.

Putting the pieces together...and following our fancy...

We're moving, as probably most everyone knows by now. The process of packing up has begun, or will begin after I sign off the blog today. We've been doing a lot of driving in the past week, and so many thoughts of potential blog posts have been designing in my head. Hopefully soon I'll have some time to post about what I'm going to miss about Durham, what I'm looking forward to in Amherst, and what I'm feeling...

I know it's a mix of bittersweet emotions and plenty of hope and excitement. I have loved UNH and the NH Seacoast, but the shine of something new and different is appealing.

For all clients and future customers, we will be moving the business to Amherst, Mass. When I'll get started...I'm not sure on that one, but it will definitely be once the snow melts. I am considering myself a destination wedding photographer this summer, and I'm pretty excited to visit all these places...Orono, Portland, Lake Winnipesaukee, Portsmouth, northern Vermont, and Scranton, PA. I do love the Office! ; )

Okay, now off to do some cleaning/packing. I'm itching to download my pictures of Christmas, but I know I'll "wake up" from my editing dreams and at least a few hours will be gone...I was in Auntie Photographer Heaven this weekend.

Weddings 2012

The new year is almost upon us, and the summer is filled for weddings. Yup, filled. If you know of someone with a spring or fall wedding, I'm open to talking. Just not October 6th! I have literally turned away at least 3-4 brides for that date. We are Vermont bound that weekend to document a very special day, 20 years in the making on that one. ; )

This winter, I'm not sure what I'll be doing with the blog...Hopefully some photos of my babe, hopefully some artsy ones to feel creative, but mainly I'll be relaxing with the snow falling.

Looking back on my photography adventures this year, I've learned a lot. A lot about photography, a lot about myself, and a lot about what I need to do to balance (or strive to) for my little family.

I wish you all a wonderful December. So excited for Holden's first Christmas!

I received an email from these sweet twins' mom back in September saying she had 2 year old twins for me here in town. I knew I was pretty busy in October but twins?? I LOVE twins. How could I pass them up? I'm so glad I didn't. I had a very fun time hanging out with these two and snapping some beautiful moments. These ones are my favorites.

Is it just me, or aren't they the cutest??

Here are Mike and Katie. Any facebook followers might remember me posting about a future groom I've known he was very little. Anyone who went to our wedding probably remembers our great officiant. Well, the lovely Laura Church is Mike's mom and someone I've always turned to for advice or just a fun chat.

Michael and Katie have an adorable camp love story. Who knows how long they have actually known each other but they found love a few summers ago and decided to make it official. I was so honored and excited when Katie emailed me to see about my availability, and I was looking forward to this shoot all fall.

Have I said it before? I really love photographing friends. There is something about the closeness I feel with people I've known forever, and I get so emotionally tied to the photos thinking about how their friends and family will like them. I have a feeling that Mamma Church is going to adore these photos of her youngest, and Pappa Church, aka Grumpy, will smile a lot on the inside. :D

Katie and Mike are tying the knot at the beautiful Camp Mechuwana in August 2013. Where else would be so fitting? They've asked me to photograph their big day, and barring any future siblings arriving for Holden that summer, I will be there with bells on.

If I'm going to start announcing favorites, I think it has to be this one above.

Lindsay and Kyle

Hi everyone,

So, as everyone probably knows, I am a hall director at UNH. One of my favorite parts of the job is supervising great RAs (Resident Assistants). Back in the day, when I first started working here, Lindsay was on my staff in Williamson. Fast forward four years later, she's planning her wedding to Kyle, the fellah she was dating back then.

I had a wonderful time jaunting around campus with them, finding great nooks and crannies, but most of all, it was so nice to catch up with Lindsay and get to know Kyle's hilarious personality. I love it when grooms make it easy...Lots of hugs, kisses, and dancing. All his idea! I can't wait for their wedding next summer.

I think he makes her really happy. : )

Michaela and Justin's Wedding!

Welcome to Michaela and Justin's wedding photos. These photos are just a snippet of the amazing, love-filled day that I spent with them in Michaela's hometown of Burlington, Vermont. For the past three years, I worked with Michaela at UNH, and I miss her terribly now that she has moved on. As you can see in their engagement photos, Michaela and Justin have spent most of their courtship long distance.

When Josh and I were traveling back from Vermont, cruising between some mountains and rolling by beautiful orange and red foliage, I heard this song on a mix CD from another bride's wedding. I remember asking Josh to play the song again and again...The lyrics were just so fitting for these two.

Meet Allie and Charlie.

I am pretty excited about their wedding next year in Maine. Allie is another Hall Director that I work with, and I'm so honored she asked me to be her wedding photographer. Allie is actually in the same hall I started in my first year at UNH: Big Willy style! It's fun to think that she and Charlie will be going over wedding plans in the very same apartment Josh and I did.

Allie and Charlie are very fun, adventurous, and laid back about this whole wedding business. Hearing about their wedding, I can tell it is going to be a great day focused on love, family, and having the time of their lives. I can't wait to document it.

I'm pretty sure I squealed when Erica told me she and Johnny were dating. I had been hoping for it to happen for a while, and I'm sure you can imagine how excited I was to hear he had proposed!

Ah, I have been gone too long! Over a month. I cannot believe it. I have been having a great time setting into my new hall and getting to know these cool students, but I have missed editing. I sprang back into my fall photo shoots with this adorable family. Maybe you recognize them from last year?

It's hard to believe this little man has grown so much. I first met him at his christening. Still one of my favorite baby shots ever.

We had a fun, adventurous time running all over the beach, playing with the football and getting soaked by the waves. You can tell he knows that football is to be taken very seriously in some of these pics!

Don't worry, your dad is MUCH nicer than Lucy ever was to Charlie Brown...

I assisted this wedding with the lovely NMD Photography, aka my soul-sistah, shutter sistah Nicole Derr, a few weeks ago. I think I found some fun ones.

On this note, it is this time of year again (just like last year and the 9 years before it...). We have started up hall director training. My friend Hannah calls it "Summer Camp for Hall Directors," and it's just that. Super fun! Until Sept 1st, I'll be living the life of the Residence Hall, so if I don't get back to you right away, I promise I will as soon as I can.

Welcome to Brittany and Jerry's wedding day. I am so thankful and happy to have been a part of their fun. It was the epitome of laid-back, joyous, and focused on love. I always feel so honored when friends, especially long-lost ones, ask me to document their union, and Brittany and Jerry's family... I felt like I had known them forever.

Brittany and Jerry got married on Mount Kearsarge, near New London, NH. Because of their work at Colby-Sawyer, they wanted a place that meant so much to them and reflected their love of hiking and the outdoors. From the beautiful setting to the fun-loving, friendly guests, it was a wonderful day. They surely were surrounded in love.

that special baby bump

So if you know me at all...whether through work, camp, or home, you probably know that I have a best friend named "Beth" (Bethany, to be exact). We've been friends since junior high, aptly meeting at Mechuwana right before she moved to my town. Her mom became the minister at our church. (Finally one that was interesting! ; )

Beth and I have been friends ever since that summer. We were roommates for many summers, and I missed her a lot when she went into the Peace Corps. When she came back, we got busy planning both of our weddings, and she and her husband moved to the town next door when Brian got a job at UNH. WhooHoo!

Alas, 3 years have come and gone so quickly, and Beth and Brian are settling into their new home in the County. I'm not sure quite where the time has gone, but definitely some of the time has been to: bowling nights, roadtrips to Mechuwana, their delicious dinners, yoga, swimming dates, not enough beach trips, and plenty of Auntie Beth/Holden time when she was one of his main babysitters this year.

I feel very fortunate that Beth and Brian lived so close to us, but I already miss them a lot, even though I just feel like they're on vacation somewhere. I can't wait to hear of this little man's arrival. I'm preparing Holden to get ready for another epic Northern Maine adventure...

Well we finally made it up to visit my husband's Aunt Razz and Uncle Terry up in Easton this past weekend. I've been shooting away on my new camera, and these adorable kiddos were more than happy to model!

Thank you Razz and Terry for a wonderful stay. Your home and family are so vibrant and beautiful. Wish we could have stayed longer. We really could have moved right in.

I know...cheesy title, but I couldn't resist! This baby really IS going to be the newest babe on the block. These are our friends Greg and Amie who got engaged around the same time, started working at UNH the same summer, got married a week apart from us, and now having a baby this year. Oh, and did I mention that we'll be next door neighbors starting in June?! Our friend Norah and her parents live across the street. I'm pretty sure it's going to be an amazing summer.

Even though there's no baby bump present in this black and white photo, I just love Amie's expression. She's either really in love with her hubby, or she's just dying for a nap...Both true emotions for a pregnant momma!

Now any time he fusses, I'll start belting out some John Denver, and he immediately looks up at me with this same, concentrated awe and calms right down. the best "vacation" of my life

It's getting to be about that time for me to go back to work. Thankfully I live where I work, so I'll be able to still have plenty of time with Holden while getting some adult interaction regularly. These past few months have felt like a bit of a blur. How did this little bitty peanut get to be two months old? I'm sure I'm going to be saying that at every month, every birthday, and I'm going to bawl like a baby when I drop him off at college...

Here are a few of my favorite snaps throughout these past couple of weeks.

Adorable Addison

In the week leading up to my due date, I spent a lot of time with my friend Nicole, who was just about two weeks late. Even though I was just near my due date, I was starting to get antsy too. I had been on vacation for over two weeks and was starting to get bored. I tried not to get my hopes up though. I was anticipating that I'd go late like my mom, so you can imagine how surprised I was when my water broke at 3am the day after my due date.

We went to our clinic, got the confirmation that we were in labor, and headed to the hospital. I didn't want to text Nicole though, not wanting her to feel bad that I went into labor so early compared to her. As the day progressed, I didn't hear from her at all, so I "knew" she must be in labor too.

Sometime late in the evening, our doula Lyndi, said off hand, "I heard they are transferring someone from the home birth center, but I'm pretty sure it's not your friend." (She was planning on having her baby about a half an hour south of our hospital.) I thought that was strange because I knew the birth center didn't take too many patients, but as you can imagine...I couldn't put much thought into it.

As I was finally pushing (31 hours later after my water breaking), my midwife Candace was bouncing back and forth between at least one other birth. Every time she would leave, I would stall. Two other doctors rotated in, but I never seemed to make much progress, even though it seemed like with each push Holden would make his appearance.

In the last few pushes, I looked my doula in the eye and said, "Is Candace in with Nicole? Is she having her baby here?" Of course Lyndi couldn't confirm but she may or may not have given me a sideways smile by that point. Then I finally heard, "Okay, Candace is back for good." I looked at her and said, "You just delivered my friend Nicole's baby, right?" She, too, didn't confirm anything, but the look of disbelief on her face was enough to tell me.

So, this was the final motivation for me. It had been a long labor with things not exactly going according to my expectations, but I knew that if Nicole was at the hospital (not her plan at all), then I could suck it up and get this baby out. Holden made his appearance half an hour after Addison.

With wedding and prime fall portrait sessions over, I have called a break from photography for a few months. Chasing little ones just wasn't producing the results I wanted while "carrying" my own around, but I love it when I get to spend a weekend with some of my own family. Carrie and Matt got married on October 9th at the most picturesque setting. Since I'm from Maine, you would think I had been to Southern Maine Community College before but I hadn't. I was completely blown away. Not only is the campus beautiful with plenty of brick and old buildings, but it is right on the water, complete with a lighthouse, a bunker and so many breathtaking views.

Carrie and Matt's wedding was a small, intimate gathering of close family. I love photographing small weddings like these because you can truly feel that Matt and Carrie are simply ready to start their life together as husband and wife. Lauren and Nathaniel

This past Sunday, I got together with Lauren and Nathaniel for their engagement shots. They took me to the AMAZING Maudslay State Park in Newburyport and to Plum Island for some sunset pics. They're tying the knot in June, and I am so excited to be their official photographer for the day.

Nathaniel, Lauren and I go way back to working at camp together, as far back as high school even! In fact, I remember when I graduated from the youth council (the group who led retreats), we had a candle-lighting ceremony, and Nathaniel was the new youth council member I passed my position on to. I love getting together with them to reminisce and catch up.

Lauren and Nathaniel have made a wonderful life here in New Hampshire, and I am sure their wedding day is going to be just magical and beautiful. I'm so happy for their successful camp love story.

I have been looking forward to this photo shoot for a while now. You can see both her (and my photography style) evolve over these past two years in her previous modeling gigs. From maternity to six months to almost-one-year plus many babysitting/photo sessions, I have loved documenting this little one's first year and a half.

Thank you Marshall and Sarah for being such great friends and models.

When I take family photos, I like to not only create photos the parents are going to like, I also try and put myself in Norah's shoes in about 18 years. I know I treasure certain photos of my family, and I'm sure she will love the above moments of her parents.

The nicest thing about being friends with your clients is the car ride home.

Every fall, our friends Kate and Andy spend a week in Wells with Kate's family, and I always look forward to visiting them there. I love the feeling of this big family all together laughing and playing. These kiddos are going to have such good memories of the beach in Maine. This year Kate and Andy wanted some group pictures of all of them together. After the group pics, I wanted to be sure to capture some of these little smiles. This is my very wonderful friend Michaela and her fiance Justin. I always get really excited when I hear big life announcements, but I was through the roof when Michaela announced to the hall directors that Justin had proposed this summer. They have been together for years, with a lot of that time being long distance and the unpredictable twists and turns of medical school.

Well blogging world,

I'm back.

Taking at least two weeks off from creative photography is not ideal. I'm devouring this wonderful new book called Visual Poetry by Chris Orwig, and he quotes photographer Richard Avedon, "If a day goes by without my doing something related to photography, it's as though I've neglected something essential to my existence, as though I had forgotten to wake up."

September is coming together nicely, and my work schedule has settled mostly into a normal routine. Having this three day weekend has been restful and is helping me focus on this upcoming fall. I'm looking forward to a handful of portrait sessions in September and two weddings in October. I'm so ready to get back into my weekend routines and to capture this beautiful fall in the making.

I love photographers who give little snippets of their every day life. This is my favorite shirt that Josh owns. It's worn, faded to almost-lime-green in places, has holes in the elbows, and he has to roll the sleeves for it to fit. If he were ever to throw it away, I would probably cry, so it's not allowed. I love it's coziness, but the color really can't be beat.

Everyone in the park was either relaxing, strolling amongst the gardens, or playing "Red Light, Green Light!"

Being in Prescott Park in the summer always makes me think of my mom. I always wish I could just teleport her from northern Maine to Portsmouth at that moment, so she could enjoy the gardens as much as I do.

My new book also suggests becoming the subject for a little while. It helps put you in the client's shoes. Cameras can be so intimidating, especially when the lens is so large you can see yourself reflected in it...

I thought there might be some of you out there looking for some baby bump photos.

Hey everyone!

That time of year has rolled around...RA training is beginning on Tuesday, so I basically go into hiding from the outside world until after move-in day. I'm anticipating this year will be even more so than the last because when I'm not with my RAs, I'll probably be sleeping (or eating!). I seem to do a lot of both lately...So, if I don't return your phone calls or emails, it's not because I don't love you... I'm probably just scratching my head to think of what I'm forgetting to do at the moment...Thank goodness I've been at UNH three years already.

I couldn't resist not posting this picture of my sweet nephew to sign off my blogging hiatus. I hope everyone who reads this has a great last two weeks of summer. I know I will. I am beyond excited about my new RAs, all of whom could not be any more kind and sweet.

My friend Lindsay referred her brother and his fiance to me for some engagement shots this past Sunday. Michelle was visiting the East Coast from New Mexico, and they settled on Odiorne State Park as their setting to grab some photos. They showed me all around the park, and even though I had just been there in May with my hall, I had no idea of all the nooks and crannies of this beautiful place. My very dear friend Angela was asked to photograph this wedding, and since we're both trying to build our portfolios, she invited me to come along as her date. I felt so honored to be a part of this day. Sara and Patrick had known each other since high school and were getting married in his parents' backyard with only about forty people in total in attendance. The entire wedding, from the details to the sincere words, were of utmost perfection. I'm not an emotional person at weddings...but even I had to hold myself together throughout this entire ceremony...It was that beautiful.

I apprenticed a wedding with the sweet and wonderful Corey Brown back in early July. I met Corey through working at UNH because she used to be a hall director and still works as a counselor here at UNH. Knowing Alex and Elisabeth met at UNH made the wedding even more fun! I hope my past and future students find love like this.

Alex and Elisabeth opted to see each other before the wedding to do the bridal party portraits. It's fun when people do this because they get more time at their cocktail hour to visit with their loved ones, but I totally understand couples who want that moment of walking down the aisle. I'm glad I could capture Alex's huge grin as he sees his bride walk down the stairs.

Photography Class

Many of you know that I've been taking a photography class for the past month at the University of New Hampshire where I work. This was the first class I've ever taken at UNH despite getting free tuition. Their classes here are all four credits, as opposed to three at most schools, so the time commitment always seemed to be too much during the school year. After taking this class though, I am motivated to keep learning more about Photoshop and other Creative Suite processes. This poster was the third in its making, and I'm very happy with it now.

As you can see, there are some more wedding photos in the flyer. I have done two weddings that need to be blogged, so stay tuned! I'll also post some of my favorite photos from our class assignments this summer, along with some tidbits of what I've learned.

Our vacation this year was a week in Cape Cod with our good friends Kate and Andy and their little one Callum, who is 18 months old. I had never been before and loved every minute. Nick's Christening

This past Saturday, I set out for "Southie" to capture this very important day for little Nicholas and his family. Where there is a cute baby, I will travel!

This was an Albanian Orthodox Christening, so the ceremony was filled with many time honored traditions. The godparents had a lot of responsibility, including officially naming him!

Jay is an accomplished photographer I met at a Seacoast Photographer's meeting a few months ago, and he willingly offered to pay forward the favor other photographers offered him when he started. These are some photos from a shoot that I did back in April. These RAs asked if I would help them surprise their hall director with some pictures of them, and since she's a regular follower, I couldn't risk her seeing them! Now that the school year is over, she has these memories now. These students were so photogenic, and you can all probably see why I like my job. Working with college students really is a bunch of fun, just like it looks in these photos! Especially by the end of the year, there is this camaraderie that I hope you all can feel in these pictures, and I'm sure this was a fantastic RA staff to supervise. I know I always feel so lucky when the year ends like this. You feel honored to be a part of their experience.

As many people know, I come from a small town with a large family. What you might not know is how lucky I am that so many of them live very close to each other. My mom's dad, my dad's mom, and his sister all live in three houses right in a row. {My parents were next door neighbors when they started dating}.

Nowadays, my brother Ron and his wife Alison have a house on the same block, and my aunt's oldest boy and his family live next door to them. {The same aunt who lives in between my grandparents}. Can it get even better than that?

Why yes...yes, it can. My oldest brother and his wife have a vacation house on the same block that they lovingly open up to us whenever we want to stay there. It's a good life, and it just got better.
